Supporting Healthcare Providers Towards Net Zero and Digitalization
Healthcare contributes to more than 4% of the global CO2 footprint. Hospitals need to align with net zero targets set by governments and healthcare institutions. Our client is part of a larger public hospital network and is seeking a strategy and implementation plan for sustainability and digitalization measures to retrofit an existing public hospital.
Our client is challenged by a green plan of the public hospital region, which demands measures towards achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2038 (Scope 2) and 2045 (Scope 3). Ten areas of action for the timeframe 2022 to 2025 have been defined, with a special focus on digital transformation for estates and facilities. As the hospital is one of the first in the group, its infrastructure is based on legacy buildings that need to be retrofitted in the process.
Our healthcare, digitalization, and sustainability experts supported the client in building a roadmap with concrete measures to achieve the goals, with impacts on infrastructure, digital setup, and process optimization. We evaluated the personas and use cases of all relevant stakeholders and developed a set of concrete measures that could be included in a roadmap with defined milestones.
Digital transformation is necessary to optimize and improve on-site operations and provide a transformative experience for staff and patients. Our client is enabled to pave the way towards a more efficient, reliable, and intelligent hospital, incorporating AI, IoT, novel sensors, and software for the environment, people assets, resources, and mobility management, supporting data-driven decarbonization. With the decarbonization workstream, we enable the use of sensors, navigation, heating and cooling, and lighting to reduce the energy consumption of the hospital, as well as heat pumps and solar PV to produce sustainable energy.
