FROM AN INTERN TO AN EXPERT IN MAKING
An internship is more than just a short-term work experience! It is often the most significant step in a career that directs your future – as in Alexandra’s case. Her Siemens journey begam with an internship while she was studying at the Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania. The environment at Siemens and the supportive development team she worked with, ignited her interest to pursue technology as a career option.
A few years after her first encounter with Siemens, she started working as a Software Engineer at Siemens Advanta Development Romania. This position has enabled her to participate in multiple meaningful tech projects that brings her great satisfaction personally. Even more so, through her recent contribution in a project that created a virus-fighting human-sized robot.
USING AI TO FIGHT VIRUSES
At Transylvania University, where Alexandra is pursuing her doctoral thesis, the team of experts together with Alexandra came up with a thought of a human-sized robot equipped with UV-C lamps, which would stop the spread of the long-term global enemy – the SarsCov-2 virus. The combined skills of the team and Alexandra’s passion for AI, brought this idea to life with outstanding results. The robot has the intelligence to identify other virus types, that people encounter daily, making it a successful invention in her career.
Besides feeding her own passion in the AI field, she also gives back by teaching at the Transylvania University of Brasov. By sharing the experiences gained at Siemens Advanta Development with younger students at the university, she is in own way encouraging a future generation of technologists.
IT’S A COLLECTIVE CLIMB
Living and growing up close to mountains in a small town in Romania, she realized the similarity between her professional journey and hiking on Romanian mountains. “From the beginning, you know your arrival at the top will not be easy. However, the satisfaction from reaching the end destination, with all the results, cannot be compared with something else,” she says. Making this parallel, Alexandra feels endless gratitude for the specialist team at Siemens who are supporting her on this journey as a Software Engineer.
While it is possible to hike alone. Yet, with the assistance of someone more experienced, someone who guides you to improve, one can achieve goals significantly more effectively. And that is more important. We tend to say: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” – to that Alexandra agrees. That is why she chooses to collaborate in a team rather than do it alone.
HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO CATCH UP WITH EVERYTHING?
“When you do everything out of passion, you don't feel it as a burden. You enjoy all the experiences. Also, when others see issues, I see opportunities. I enjoy challenges and new opportunities, and I like to benefit from every chance to improve things and deliver quality products in my day-by-day work.”
Working as a Software Engineer at Siemens, pursuing her Ph.D, and teaching, Alexandra has very little free time. She does, however, believe that one can always find time to pursue other interests that are important to them. This holds true for her, in addition to her love for AI, she makes time for activities involving traveling, climbing mountains, skiing, hiking in nature, that keep her healthy and happy.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
